Electronic Gaming South Africa (eGSA) has been formed by members of the Battlefield community. These members are Calvin 'Anbu-siryn' Muller and Tyron 'Prokill' Bataille.
This is mainly due to the fact that there is no competitive Battlefield Bad Company 2 (BC2) currently being played. The last competition was held early in 2011 by Do Gaming after deciding not to hold an online league for BC2. This decision was taken due to a diminished interest shown from the community. Do Gaming did hold an online league for BC2 in 2010, for which initial interest was high. 30 teams entered the first leg of the league. There were again 30 teams in the next leg of the league. Which did drop to 23 in the last leg of that league. The competition held at the start of 2011 had 18 entries. All of Do Gamings BC2 competitions made use of the Conqust game mode.
What we've initially done was focus on the other game modes offered by BC2. We have hosted a 4vs4 Squad Deathmatch competition, landmarkpcleague.co.za . This was the way in which we tested the waters. And the response was pretty good, 24 teams entered which was a total of 111 players. The good part about holding a 4vs4 competition is that smaller teams are easier to manage. Its obviously easier to organise 4 or 5 guys than it is to coordinate 8 -10 people.
That being said though, Battlefield as a competitive game is a majority 8vs8 matchup. This is how I've come to know the competitive side of the battlefield series. Which is why we are returning to that in the next competition, and the first to be held by eGSA. We approached the community on several of the local gaming forums with a couple of options as to what type of competition they would like to see us host next. The resounding response was a 8vs8 Rush competition. That is what we're currently gearing up for. From the responses on the forum we expect somewhere between 9-12 teams to enter.
Provision is being made for another BC2 competition after the first rush competition. This will have us somewhere near the end of the year and all waiting for the launch of Battlefield 3, which should be somewhere in November.
We'll see where this journey takes us one competition at a time. We're looking forward to it, hope you guys are too!
